Sustainability & Glass REUSE PROGRAM
As of August 12th, 2019, Horizon Line Coffee will no longer serve any drinks in single use paper or plastic. All drinks will be served in reusable glass jars, or mugs for those sticking around to enjoy their coffee at the shop.
We believe that humans, and the coffee we all enjoy, are deeply rooted in the health of our planet.
We believe that both individuals and larger social, political, and economic systems are responsible for protecting the environment.
We believe that it is our responsibility to promote ethical, responsible, and transformational actions within our community and industry.
As the consequences of our reliance on plastics becomes more obvious for both the environment and human health, it is clear that the time for small changes in addressing climate change and waste are behind us. So, we are changing our system, and are doing so with the help of our guests. We know this is a shift for many, but the transition to the Glass Reuse Program is based on the understanding that we serve thoughtful and creative people, and that social change can only occur when we work together.
The transition to reusable glassware not only eliminates some plastics from our trash stream, but also recognizes the social inequalities that exist within the shipping our ‘recycling’ to poorer countries for processing. The transition to glass also recognizes the opportunity to utilize a product that is 100% recyclable without any loss in quality or purity.
“Now we all have a choice, we can create transformational action that will safeguard the living conditions for future generations, or we can continue with our business as usual and fail… We need a system change rather than an individual change, but you cannot have one without the other.”
-Greta Thunberg
